چکیده

Optimistic replication can provide high data availability for collaborative applications in large scale distributed systems (grid, P2P, and mobile systems). However, if data reconciliation is performed by a single node, data availability remains an important issue since the reconciler node can fail. Thus, reconciliation should also be distributed and reconciliation data should be replicated. We have previously proposed the DSR-cluster algorithm, a distributed version of the IceCube semantic reconciliation engine designed for cluster networks. However DSR-cluster is not suitable for P2P networks, which are usually built on top of the Internet. In this case, network costs must be considered. The main contribution of this paper is the DSR-P2P algorithm, a distributed reconciliation algorithm designed for P2P networks. We first propose a P2P-DHT cost model for computing communication costs in a DHT overlay network. Second, taking into account this model, we propose a cost model for computing the cost of each reconciliation step. Third, we propose an algorithm that dynamically selects the best nodes for each reconciliation step. Our algorithm yields high data availability with acceptable performance and limited overhead.

Data Reconciliation in P2P Collaborative Applications

In this paper, we address data reconciliation in peer-to-peer (P2P) collaborative applications. We propose P2P-LTR (Logging and Timestamping for Reconciliation) which provides P2P logging and timestamping services for P2P reconciliation over a distributed hash table (DHT). While updating at collaborating peers, updates are timestamped and stored in a highly available P2P log. During reconciliat...

Infrastructure P2P pour la Réplication et la Réconciliation des Données. (P2P Infrastructure for Data Replication and Reconciliation)

In this thesis, we address the problem of optimistic replication for collaborative text editing in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems. This problem is challenging because of concurrent updating at multiple peers and dynamic behavior of peers. Operational transformation (OT) is a typical approach used for handling optimistic replication in the context of distributed text editing. However, most of OT sol...

Enabling Dynamic Querying over Distributed Hash Tables

Dynamic querying (DQ) is a search technique used in unstructured peer-topeer (P2P) networks to minimize the number of nodes that is necessary to visit to reach the desired number of results. In this paper we introduce the use of the DQ technique in structured P2P networks. In particular, we present a P2P search algorithm, named DQ-DHT (Dynamic Querying over a Distributed Hash Table), to perform...
